Italian Plumber Taken into Custody after Murder Spree through Mushroom Kingdom

Mushroom Kingdom – Authorities today announced the apprehension of a local man who they accuse of going on a rampage in the Mushroom Kingdom.

The man, identified only as Mario, is charged with over one hundred counts of murder in the first and second degree.

"This was a rampage, there is no other word for it," said Police Chief Goomba. "He indiscriminately stomped, punched and firebombed innocent mushrooms, turtles and even potted plants."

Prosecutors are seeking life imprisonment, the maximum sentence in the kingdom.

Mario's defense team stated that he his actions were in self-defense, and further that he was acting to rescue Princess Peach.

The princess responded through her press team, denying that she needed to be rescued, and further stating that nothing could not possibly justify the wholesale killing of her subjects.

Judge Shy Guy has set the trial to begin early next month.
