Corpus Christi, Texas – Focus on the Family today released a statement condemning the children's game Pokemon for teaching children the "dangerous and false theory of evolution."

The Japanese game, long popular among children and even some adults around the world, features magical animals which battle one another based on a complex set of rules.

"We are fine with the strange creatures," said pastor John Murphy, a member of the commission which created the report, "though we want to be clear that these were not created by God and are not a part of His plan."

He went on to explain that they disapprove of the game's use of "evolution" in which animals become more powerful manifestations of themselves. "We believe this gives children the dangerous idea that evolution is not only natural, but necessary," the report concludes.

The Pokemon Company, which manufactures the game, was not available for comment.
